What You Need To Do (when having a new conservatory installed)

Please think about the following points, the building work probably means that some of these will need to be considered:

  • Notify your household insurer that the work is taking place and inform them that the re-building costs of your home and new conservatory will therefore be greater too.
  • Be aware of the services Window Wise will need:
    • electrical supply for tools, mixers and most importantly the kettle!
    • space to store materials/tools
    • clear access for the delivery vehicles
    • a suitable place for a skip
    • ready access for the delivery to site and temporary storage of bricks/blocks and aggregates. Are there any issues with access? (i.e. narrow passageways for barrows)
    • it is always common courtesy to notify your neighbours that the work is scheduled to take place.

Good communication with Window Wise will almost certainly guarantee you a perfect conservatory installation
If, when discussing your conservatory design/specification/construction, you don't understand anything, always ask. Misunderstandings and wrong assumptions made during the early stages of your project will almost certainly lead to costly remedials/rectification.

If the new conservatory is to be built over an existing part of the garden area, then it is advisable to remove and replant precious plants/shrubs well before the groundwork commences. Indeed there may even be an ornamental pond that may require either protection or moving.

All this will ensure that the construction will run smoothly in order for Window Wise to provide you with your dream conservatory.

In the light of all the above, you will certainly want to have a dialogue with your neighbours, to let them know what is happening and to make sure they are not inconvenienced by construction work and/or vehicle movements/parking.

Finally, by playing your part you will ensure that you have the best chance of achieving your dream conservatory!

Awkward Locations
If you have always dreamed of owning a conservatory but feel that the space you have available is either too small or is unsuitable, don't despair. Window Wise have the experience and innovative products to ensure that they can create a conservatory in the most awkward of places... we like a challenge!

Common problems to overcome are:
  • Drainpipes, drains and drainage pipe runs
  • Manhole covers
  • Boiler flues
  • Large trees/tree roots
  • Situations needing extra drainage
  • Sloping sites
With early planning and careful consideration none of these should cause any issues. Your new conservatory will be designed to eliminate or minimise potential problems. There are many unique features built into roofing systems to ensure that a conservatory can be constructed in almost any location.

Our dedicated team will ensure the design for your new conservatory will be structurally sound and enhance the style and character of your property. At an early stage it is always a good idea to plot out the actual floor space of your new conservatory with poles or bricks on the ground. Place out chairs and furniture to ensure the floor space feels adequate enough and ask the surveyor to indicate where the height of any dwarf walls will reach so you can be sure that you can see over them when seated. Remember that the overall thickness of the cavity wall can be up to 280mm (11").

If you have any other technical queries about your conservatory or questions about the method of construction or overall size, our surveyor and installations manager is always on hand to clarify and answer any such questions you may have.

A Quick Word on Health and Safety
In the interest of Health and Safety, it is important that prior to the work commencing the following advice and information is noted by the householder or the person who will be responsible for the premises, occupants and any visitors at the time of installation. Any uncertainties should be raised and clarified, prior to the work commencing, to ensure a full and clear understanding.

  • Children and pets must not be permitted to enter any room or the immediate working area where the work is in progress or any areas where materials, equipment or debris is being stored until specifically being advised by the installer that it is safe to do so.
  • Warning signs should be observed at all times and no-one should cross safety barriers or netting at any time other than through the identified access routes. Should the householder deem it necessary to move barriers or signs, the installer should be advised in advance accordingly.
