Choosing the right glazing for your conservatory’s aspect

Depending on the aspect of your conservatory, the glass you choose will have a huge impact both on the amount of light coming into the space, and the warmth that is generated.

We have the knowledge and experience to guide you to making the right decision so that you get the very most from this versatile and treasured part of the home.

A clean, clear choice

At Window Wise, we have invested a lot of time and research into finding the best products for our customers. That’s why we have huge confidence in recommending Pilkington Activ™ glass to our customers when designing and building their conservatory.

This revolutionary product is defined as dual-action, self-cleaning glass. The unique coating uses nature to help keep the glass free from dirt – not only does this minimise the need for cleaning, the result is clear, beautiful windows.

The coating works by reacting with natural daylight to break down and loosen organic dirt. When it rains, the coating enables to water to spread evenly over the surface to wash away the dirt.

The range of glass available also includes solar control properties that help to create a wonderfully comfortable environment to be enjoyed year-round. For example, in summer, glass with solar control helps prevent heat ‘build up’ by reducing the amount of heat that passes into your conservatory.

The right colour for your aspect

The aspect your conservatory will drive your decision making regarding the choice of glazing. It’s imperative that this special room that you’re investing in can be enjoyed every month of the year, whatever the weather.

For example, if your conservatory is south-facing, you will require more solar protection, whereas for a north-facing aspect, maximising the amount of light coming in will be the greatest priority.

We find that for many customers, Pilkington Activ™ Blue is the most appropriate choice. It’s an attractive blue glass that combines the self-cleaning properties with medium solar control. This helps to create a pleasant environment for use in every season. Pilkington Activ™ Bronze is an alternative to the blue option, giving the same dual-action benefits. The unique colour helps to keep internal temperatures cooler whilst maintaining excellent light transmittance.

The Clear option may be more appropriate for some requirements, such as north-facing conservatories. This can also be used in combination with the colour options to bring in more light through doors or side windows if this is an important consideration for the conservatory’s aspect.
