What is a composite door?

Your front door is one of the first things people notice about your home and it plays a vital role in insulating and protecting your home.

A ‘composite’ door, as the name suggests, is made up of more than one material, and these are carefully selected for their form and function. The result is an incredibly robust external door that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also features a host of practical benefits.

Do composite doors look like wood?

The beauty of a high-quality composite door is the ability for it to resemble woodgrain to such an extent, that it is difficult to distinguish from a traditional timber door.

The sharp woodgrain effect is both convincing and attractive, but without the upkeep that real timber inevitably requires.

Are composite doors easy to maintain?

State-of-the-art materials such as glass reinforced polymer (or GRP) that are used for the external surface, ensure that composite doors are extremely durable and maintain their colour and condition over many years – whatever the British weather throws! and they are about as low-maintenance as it is possible to be!

What is a double rebate composite door?

When a door is ‘double rebate’ as opposed to single rebate, it refers to the fact that the door and the frame overlap each other.

This enables compression seals to be fitted to both the door and the frame, known as a dual compression system, giving the door an incredibly tight fit, which is both secure and weatherproof.

Are composite doors energy efficient?

The energy efficiency of replacement doors and windows is measured in U-Values, which measure the amount of energy lost.

Double rebate composite doors create a highly effective seal, and are therefore very efficient at insulating. Window Wise supply and install the Duo composite double rebate door, which has a U-Value of 0.8. This low U-Value is additionally achieved as this door is 54% thicker than a standard single rebate composite door.

Composite doors are built to keep the heat in and the weather out, so they will help to reduce energy consumption – good for your pocket and the environment.

Can composite doors be glazed?

A range of glazing styles are available with composite doors.

A glazed Duo composite door will be installed with 50ml triple glazing as standard. This further enhances its insulating properties, and the noise reduction that is another feature of these substantial doors.
