Orangeries

Bring timeless elegance to your home.

Orangeries date back to the 1600s when citrus fruits first arrived in Europe and the wealthy constructed glazed rooms to house their valuable new plants.

Today, orangeries are a popular way to create more space and light in our homes. They bridge the gap between a conservatory and home extension; with solid walls and a glazed ceiling giving you the best of both worlds.

Adding an orangery to your home will give you extra space for relaxing, dining or working. It will also add value to your property.

Orangery styles

Traditional

Traditional orangery

A classically design orangery harks back to a golden age, bringing to mind the grandeur of stately homes.

But this doesn’t mean you have to compromise on modern quality and thermal efficiency. Our traditional orangeries are constructed with the same cutting edge technology as their more contemporarily designed counterparts.

Contemporary

A contemporary orangery includes all the classic features you would expect, but with a cleaner, more minimalist feel.

Thanks to the many style and colour options available, our contemporary orangeries grace homes of any age and design.

Stress-free installation

We aim to make the installation of your new orangery an enjoyable experience, from the moment you step foot in our showroom.

Please pass on my huge thanks to everyone involved in the process from start to finish. You are all wonderful!

Bring the timeless elegance of an orangery to your home

Roof options

A fully glazed roof will flood your home with natural light.

Our Ultrasky roofs are designed with an incredibly strong ridge, which is also thermally insulated. The strength of this structure means that fewer glazing bars are needed, maximising the sunlight in your home.

The high tech design also means that your orangery roof will cope with whatever the elements throw at it. The design is watertight and tested in winds up to 130mph.

Fitting one or more roof lanterns within a solid roof will give your orangery a more substantial feel, closer to that of a standard extension.

We fit Ultrasky roof lanterns, which have fewer and slimmer glazing bars, allowing more light to enter your home.

Their “triple layered joint” design keeps them watertight and thermal breaks in the ridge and bars minimise condensation.

Wall options

Brickwork or stonework is the most traditional style for an orangery.

The most popular choice is dwarf brick walls combined with standard height windows and French doors.

However, your orangery can be created with any combination you like, such as full height windows, sliding patio doors or solid brick walls.

Super-insulated columns, also known as loggia columns, create a more contemporary look.

Thanks to their core of expanded polystyrene and styropor carbon, they are five times more energy efficient than brick piers. They help to keep your orangery, and the rest of your home, warm in the winter months.

Plus, because they’re manufactured off site, they are quick and mess-free to install.

Your orangery can be fitted with the window size, style and type of your choice.

We offer a wide range of PVCu, aluminium and timber windows. In each range you can select from contemporary designs or classic styles, to complement the windows of your home.

While French doors are the traditional choice for organgeries, many homeowners prefer the more open feel of sliding patio doors, or the dramatic style of bi-fold (concertina) doors.

Our doors are all available in PVCu or aluminium, and our French doors can also be made in timber.

Colour options

Orangery roof and window frames are available in a range of standard colours, including whites, greys, blacks and wood effects.

If you have a more bespoke requirement, then you can select from around 2,000 different colours to find the perfect one to suit your orangery and your home.

Glazing options

We use solar control glass, which is specially engineered for the needs of an orangery roof.

Climate control glazing deflects heat from the sun in the summer to keep the inside of the orangery cool. In winter, it retains the warmth from your heating.

It also features self-cleaning technology to break down dirt and grime, allowing rain water to wash them away.

Glazing for your orangery is available in clear and tinted options. We will help you select the right glass for the apsect of your orangery, the level of solar control you need and your style preferences.

Finishing touches

While the superior energy efficiency of modern orangeries means they are excellent at maintaining a comfortable temperature, some ventilation is still useful, particularly to minimise condensation.

Trickle vents at the top of your windows will provide a natural upward movement of warm air, carrying moisture out of your orangery, without causing a draught.

Roof vents provide additional ventilation, with the option of an electric opening system for ease of use.

Fitting the right type of heating will keep your orangery at a comfortable temperature year round, enabling you to enjoy it even in the depths of winter.

Under floor heating is a popular choice. Alternatively, the solid sections of your orangery walls are ideal places to install electric wall heaters.

Thanks to their excellent insulation properties, particularly where super-insulated columns are used, our orangeries are very energy efficient when compared to conservatories.

The perimeter ceiling, which is such a classic feature of orangeries, also provides a perfect location for fitting downlights, or even speakers.

Orangeries with multiple lantern roofs often have an additional section of ceiling between the lanterns, which is an excellent spot for additional downlights or a pendant light.

Choosing the right finishing touches will enhance the style of your orangery.

In particular, the choice of exterior cornice can make a real statement. A simple, squared cornice emphasises a contemporary style. A more ornate moulding will emulate the grandeur of a more traditional orangery.

The decorative cornice also has another important job – to hide the guttering!
