Why we recommend climate control glass for your glazed extension

During more than 30 years of improving customers’ homes, we have seen many product innovations.

Whether we’re installing new windows and doors, or a beautiful glazed extension, we keep up to date with developments that are at the cutting edge of their industry. This ensures we always recommend the best possible materials.

That’s why we’re delighted to offer climate control glass to our customers for their glazed extensions, conservatories or orangeries – a state-of-the-art product with exceptional benefits.

A room for all seasons

The joy of a new glazed extension is the year-round enjoyment it brings by extending living, working or entertaining space and, often, connecting the house seamlessly to outside space.

The choice of glazing is imperative to ensure comfort through every season.

Climate control (or solar control) glass uses the very latest technology to combine solar reflection and thermal insulation. This regulates both natural light and temperature, which are integral to the experience of a glazed extension.

Managing solar heat for every aspect

Depending the aspect of your glazed extension, conservatory or orangery, this will inform the most appropriate solar control glass for your specific build.

South-facing aspects

For south-facing installations, where managing solar heat is paramount, we recommend tinted climate control glazing.

This glass combines multiple coatings to ensure optimum solar control. You can choose from options which reflect up to 80% of solar heat, which enables a cooler environment in summer, whilst allowing enough natural warmth through in the winter to give year-round comfort.

North-facing aspects

For glazed extensions with a north-facing aspect, where managing solar heat is not an issue, clear solar control glass is recommended. It’s ideal for bringing in maximum light.

No matter what aspect your glazed extension faces, climate control glass technology reduces the damaging UV rays that can fade furnishings and fabric. Some options even offer 100% protection for your furniture. So, you can be confident that every aspect of your new space will continue to look good for years to come.

Self-cleaning glass

Sounds too good to be true? Happily, self-cleaning glass is a reality.

Self-cleaning glass features a microscopic film, which enables daylight to break down any dirt and grime, so that it can be naturally washed away by rainwater.

The balance of light, heat and sound

Solar reflection is the amount of the sun’s heat that is deflected from the glass. Light transmission is the amount of light transmitted through the glass.

Thermal insulation is measured by the rate of heat loss through double glazing or the U-value. The lower the U-value, the more efficient the thermal insulation.

Climate control glass technology carefully manages the transmission of light and heat, along with heat loss. It also enables effective sound reduction, to ensure a comfortable, energy-efficient environment all year round.
