How to choose the right glass for your windows

Glazing makes up about 70% of a window. So, your choice of glass can make a big difference to your heating costs and how warm your home is over the winter.

Our PVCu windows are all fitted with high performance glass from the Planitherm range. This is manufactured in the UK by Saint-Gobain, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of flat glass for the building industry.

About Saint-Gobain

Planitherm is manufactured by Saint-Gobain, an international leader in designing and producing materials for the construction sector.

You won’t just find their glass in homes around the world – if you’ve every seen the London “Gherkin” (at 30 St Mary Axe) then you’ll have seen a glittering example of their work.

Planitherm glass is manufactured here in the UK at their Yorkshire base. As well as ensuring consistently high quality products, environmental concerns are also important to Saint-Gobain. The sand used to manufacture Planitherm glass is sourced in the UK and, on average, 30% of each sheet is made from recycled glass.

This made Planitherm a natural choice for Window Wise – allowing us to supply outstanding quality, energy efficient, British made glazing to our customers.

Planitherm glazing range

Energy Standard

All Planitherm’s glazing options have excellent energy efficiency. This includes an argon gas filled cavity and warm edge spacers for enhanced insulation.

Their Energy Standard glass is coated to retain the warmth of the sun and prevent heat escaping from your home. When compared to standard, uncoated double glazing, you should see a 56% improvement in energy efficiency.

While Energy Standard is the “basic” option, it will still keep you snug over the winter and help to reduce your heating costs.

Comfort

The Comfort option still retains the same 56% energy efficiency improvement as Energy Standard, but it also has a wealth of other features to enhance your comfort.

It has 20% better noise reduction when compared to standard double glazing, reducing sound transmission by 36dB.

A built-in security layer makes Comfort glass more difficult to break, protecting you against burglary and vandalism.

Finally, the Comfort option reduces the transmission of ultra violet light by 99%, minimising furniture and curtain fading.

An invisible coating on the glass keeps out 50% of the sun’s heat. But this doesn’t mean that your room will be cold in winter – the same coating also helps to retain the warmth from your heating, making Comfort Plus 63% more energy efficient than standard double glazing.
