Replacement windows for a rural, period home near Lewes

When Mr and Mrs Reeson approached us, they had just moved into their beautiful home overlooking the South Downs.

Their new home was a traditional Sussex tile hung property in rural Ringmer, near Lewes, which they were renovating back to its former glory.

The original windows

Like many properties of its age, Mr and Mrs Reeson’s home had single glazed, steel Crittal windows, in wooden frames.

The windows were showing signs of wear and tear, including some rot taking hold of the woodwork. Plus, that single glazing was not going to keep the cold out in the winter.

Replacement PVCu windows

Mr and Mrs Reeson wanted to keep the authentic appearance of their windows, but benefit from all the advantages of modern PVCu technology.

They selected our flush sash PVCu windows, with white frames and black sashes, to match the original design. The frames have a woodgrain effect, giving them the appearance of timber with a fraction of the upkeep.

The glazing is ornamented with a rectangular lead design which has been aged for a blackened look. The thickness of the lead strips was carefully measured to match the originals. The windows were finished with classic “Monkey Tail” handles.

At the rear of the home, we also fitted Alumina bi-fold doors to give the Reesons easy access to their garden, while still complementing the traditional style.

Style and performance

Mr and Mrs Reeson’s windows don’t just look great, they are also keeping their home warmer.

Their new windows are double glazed and “A” rated for energy efficiency. This means that they keep out the winter chills and reduce heating bills.
