Room with a view – a ‘year-round’ conservatory in Haywards Heath

We were delighted to be contacted again by Mr and Mrs A, who we have known since 1999, having previously installed new windows and doors for them at their Haywards Heath property.

Now they were ready for the next improvement to their home – a conservatory with a very clear brief.

They wanted extra space that could be used all year round, with lots of glass to give them the best possible view of their garden.

Maximum light, comfortable living

Top of Mr and Mrs A’s brief was for their new conservatory to be comfortable all year round, whilst letting in maximum light. This was fulfilled by the chosen roofing system and windows.

We discussed their requirements and it was agreed with Mr and Mrs A that the Ultra Frame Classic Roof would be by far the most appropriate option for their desired outcome.

For the vertical windows, energy efficient Platinum NRG Slim Line casements were chosen.

The perfect match

Following construction of the base work, we built a 600mm dwarf brick wall. This wall not only constitutes a more substantial construction, it provides additional insulation. The bricks were carefully chosen and weathered to match the house.

The roof incorporates an insulated internal ceiling pelmet, to effectively maintain the temperature in the conservatory. The pelmet also covers the internal perimeter between the vertical windows and the roof. Integrated LED downlighting gives a contemporary feel to the design.

Outside, we installed a traditional curved cornice, which runs around the external perimeter of the conservatory to conceal the guttering and give a substantial profile to the building.

Code 4 lead flashing was used for its malleability, a stepped cavity tray completes the neat contour of the roof.

The important aspect

As the conservatory is south facing, it was important to select the right glazing, both from a natural light perspective and the comfort of year-round use.

Pilkington Activ Blue, self-cleaning glazing was installed throughout to ensure a space that is kept warm in the winter and cool in the summer months. This is achieved due to the solar properties of the glass.

The chosen Smooth White finish, both internally and externally, ensures that the new conservatory is in keeping not only with the rest of the home, but with neighbouring properties.

Mission accomplished!

Mr and Mrs A are over the moon with their new conservatory.

The chosen glazing and insulated internal ceiling pelmet have given them the ‘year-round’ room with a view they were hoping for. We are delighted that it has “exceeded all expectations”.
