Window Wise top of the class
Last year Window Wise worked to deliver a glazing solution for a prestigious local commercial project at Cumnor House School.
We worked alongside Luke & Luke Construction as private preparatory school Cumnor House Sussex developed an exciting new £3 million STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) building on its site in Danehill, near the Ashdown Forest, East Sussex.
The school’s ethos of ‘Aim high, be kind and dare to be different’ sets exacting challenges for the design, specification and detailing of the new block.
The external design is eye catching and contemporary in its setting. Internally it contains three science labs, three classrooms and a Design & Technology suite that embrace innovative modern teaching methods. The school’s strong environmental principles are reflected in the incorporation of sustainable technology in the structure, including Solar PV panels, air source heat pumps, rainwater harvesting and energy efficient glazing. Interestingly, elements of each system are intentionally visually exposed, to become practical, educational tools for the school’s pupils.
The STEM block’s extensive glazing scheme maximises natural light and passive ventilation, whilst its scale and transparency softens the mass of the building. Faceted sections are important to the building’s design, projecting and complementing the curvilinear form of its striking facade.
The installation consists of powder paint coated aluminium frames in architectural grey (RAL7016), with 37 flat contemporary sash casement windows and 15 door sets, all with slim-line aesthetics and expertly fitted by Window Wise.
This easily maintained, resilient and durable glazing solution is well suited to the years of demanding use that the school’s energetic pupils will undoubtedly subject it to.
