Porch replacement in Newick, East Sussex

Having fitted windows for Mr and Mrs Payton earlier in the year, we were delighted when they contacted us again. This time they asked us to replace their dilapidated front porch.

A problematic porch

Their existing porch had seen better days. The steps leading up to it had started to crumble and it certainly lacked any “kerb appeal”.

The ageing porch was also draughty, letting in cold air and reducing the overall energy efficiency of the property.

Traditional design meets modern technology

Mr and Mrs Payton were keen to have a new porch to keep out the cold. Plus, they wanted it to be visually in keeping with the rest of their Edwardian period home.

We reviewed the options with Mr and Mrs Payton and decided upon a cottage-style, A+ energy efficient, PVCu front door, from a range by Platinum NRG. Echoing the age of the home, we painted the door in classic Chartwell Green.

The windows are also from the Platinum NRG collection. They have a slim line design and are highly energy efficient. We installed astragal Georgian bars, mirroring the existing windows (read more about windows for period properties).

We worked with a local builder to construct the new porch, ensuring that the bricks perfectly matched the property. The new pitched roof was the finishing touch, reflecting the gable end on the main roof above it.

The finished porch certainly returns the kerb appeal to this beautiful period property!

And, most importantly, it has given Mr and Mrs Payton a warm and energy efficient home.

We have just had a substandard porch, a later addition to our Edwardian Period house, replaced by Window Wise. We would like to say how pleased we are with the result. They were able to build for us a new porch that combines a period feel in keeping with the rest of the house, with modern standards of insulation and craftsmanship.

We appreciated their friendly and helpful service, working with us in designing the porch. The placing of the order was made very easy and, importantly, at no time did we feel pressurised to purchase more than we could comfortably afford – and we liked the way that the quote given was inclusive of all costs.

We were more than pleased with the quality of the work of the builders, BC Building, and Simon and his team did a really good job, working to a very high standard. We liked the way that they understood that we wanted to achieve a period feel to the work, which they more than accomplished.

The windows and door were installed by Window Wise contractors, John and Steve, who were perfectionists and produced an excellent result, for which we would like to pass on our thanks.

Throughout the nearly 2 month project, we felt that we were in capable hands – through regular site visits by Window Wise, or by efficient communication through their office. The interface between the builders, their subcontractors and Window Wise contractors could have been a challenge, but in fact worked well despite the pressures of poor weather and Covid-related building supplies issues.

We are extremely pleased with the final result, which has more than reached our expectations. We would highly recommend Window Wise, not just for window replacement, but if you are considering a similar project to ours.
